Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a condition that occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes compressed as it passes through the narrow carpal tunnel in the wrist. This can cause symptoms such as numbness, tingling, weakness and pain in the hand and fingers.​

The surgical procedure for carpal tunnel syndrome involves cutting the ligament that is pressing on the median nerve, thus relieving the pressure. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and typically takes less than half an hour to complete.

After surgery, patients will need hand therapy to help restore hand function and flexibility. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the surgery, but most patients can expect to resume normal activities within a few weeks.
